AUSTRALIAN PIONEER In what is claimed to be one of the most
sophisticated tests of electronic voting to date, citizens of Australia's capital Canberra will be able to vote in state elections in October using on-screen ballots. The poll will use a complex preferential voting system, and a mix of online and paper ballots, although the latter will also be counted electronically.
The state government, Australian Capital Territory, hopes internet voting will be an option in 2004. See:
